Allen Williams is a freelance writer with varied interests ranging from information architecture to reality TV and cooking. He considers himself a lifelong learner and enjoys the pursuit of new information and experiences.

Information Geek

After receiving a Creative Writing degree from Grand Valley State University and a Master's in Library & Information Science from the University of Texas, Allen pursued his interest in the internet industry and worked for several industry-leading companies in the Silicon Valley.

Allen worked to design user-friendly taxonomy systems at eBay.com which aided in the search and retrieval of information. He also help define and identify the content to power a top shopping search engine, TheFind.com.

Reality TV Junkie

Having relocated to Vancouver B.C. in early 2009, Allen was amazed by the film industry presence in his new city and occasionally stumbled upon late-night movie shoots in his neighborhood. While film is near to his heart, Allen enjoys watching reality unfold on television.

His reality passion formed in college when MTV's Real World premiered and he watched it religiously. Over the years, he's been known to binge on Survivor, American Idol, America's Next Top Model, Project Runway, and So You Think You Can Dance and recently stumbled upon a rather sinful brain-candy show from ABC, Dating in the Dark.

Food Enthusiast

With so much television programming to watch, Allen is never far from the kitchen. He enjoys baking and writing about his kitchen experiences. He is the author of two blogs: Eating Out Loud which focuses on modern recipes, and Recovered Recipes which focuses on sharing his vintage, handwritten recipe card collection.

Allen's writing is published on The Washington Post and Well Fed Network, and has been republished on Chicago Sun-Times and The Herald News. His food photography has been featured on Saveur and numerous food web sites.

Massage & Bodywork Professional

Allen recently took a break from his information profession to pursue a goal of becoming a bodyworker. He completed a 700-hour massage certification at the Vancouver School of Bodywork & Massage where he specialized in deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, hot stone massage, and foot reflexology. He is now a member of the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada.
